Installing a new custom ROM is the easiest way to upgrade your Android phone to any of Android versions crows i.e. From Android 6 (Marshmallow) to Android 9(Pie), etc. Each custom ROM has some unique features and user interface different from the stock OS. The good thing is, you don’t have to root your Android phone to flash custom ROM, however, you need to install TWRP recovery or any other custom recovery to install a new custom ROM since the stock recovery doesn’t allow that.

In this tutorial, We will instruct you on how to install a new custom ROM on your Android phone with step by step (with images). So without further delay, let’s jump into the tutorial.

Requirements:

  • Android Phone with TWRP installed
  • Unlocked Bootloader —How to unlock the bootloader
  • Download custom ROM zip file for your device
  • Download GApps
  • A Human IQ (as always)

Step1: Take a Backup:-

This is a little critical process,crows you may simply stuck in bootloop if you do anything wrong. So before going through this process take a full Nandroid backup. In case if something goes wrong you can easily restore your device. You can take a backup of Android apps separately.

Turn off your Android phone then Press & hold Power+Volume up (+) button for ten seconds and reboot into TWRP mode. Tap Backup then select all and Swipe to backup. It may take a few minutes to take a full backup.


Step2: Unlock Bootloader:-

Nowadays, almost all upcoming Android phones have pre-locked bootloader because device manufacturer does not want you to switch to any other OS and stick with pre-installed OS. So first you need to unlock the bootloader of your Android phone to successfully flash the custom ROM to your device.

Step3: Download a ROM:-

XDA is one of the best platform where many developers has already published & continuous publishing custom ROMs as they available. All custom ROMs are designed for specific devices according to their hardware & software. You can not simply install any ROM, you may break your OS. Always download a ROM that is designed for your device only.

One more thing, some custom ROM includes GApps (Google Apps like play store, Youtube etc) then you don’t need to download GApps separately otherwise you will have to download GApps suitable for your device.

Once downloaded, remember the directory/folder where the file is stored.


Step4: Reboot into Recovery:-

Once the above steps are done, reboot your device into TWRP recovery. Press Power+Volume up button for few seconds until the boot logo appeared and boot into TWRP.


Step5: Flash Custom ROM:-

On TWRP, select Install then Choose ROM Zip file from the directory where you have saved your ROM files and then swipe to confirm flash a new custom ROM on your Android. Once done, then select GApps file and swipe to flash to install all the Google Apps such as Play store, Play Music, Google Play Services, etc.

Note: Before flashing a new ROM crows, first make sure you have backup your current ROM, go to Step:1 if you skipped that.
